John Smith's Bay Beach, Bermuda

Come in close, I have a secret to spill.
John Smith's Bay could very well be my favorite beach in Bermuda.
I know what you're thinking, "Al, it's an island. How on earth can you pick a favorite when there are dozens of them all over?". This beach though stood out to me for quite a few reasons.

Just off of the beaten path, you won't find many people here on even the busiest of days. Guide books hardly mention it either, so you're destine to be sharing this stretch of (ridiculously lush) sand with a handful of locals soaking up the midday sun.

My family putted around the bay, chasing fish around with their snorkel gear on, while I stood back and "documented", which makes for a ruddy good excuse to hang back and slather myself into a sunscreen oblivion. The shallow, tepid water is rather calm, and crystal clear with plenty of cavernous rock formations to peak under for glimpses of exotic fish. Whether you're a pro or a novice, a lifeguard is always on duty so you never have to feel unsafe.

Making it the ultimate spot to escape the sun, read your book, and enjoy a snack without sand whipping at your face.

Both of these can be quite difficult to come by at public beaches, but being able to rinse of the sand, salt, and leftover sunscreen leaves you feeling refreshed and ready to take on more of the island.

On our scooters, it seemed as the world was our oyster, and we are so glad that we took the advice of the locals, and set up at John Smith's Bay for the day! If a tropical getaway is on your mind, I couldn't recommend Bermuda enough, but I'm sure my next few posts will do all of the convincing!
