Our First Day in Lausanne, Switzerland

Hello There!
Fighting every symptoms of jet lag, we rose with our semi-early alarm and putted out to greet the city.
Though we've never actually lived here, Lausanne feels like a second home to us.

Switzerland has four national languages; German, French, Italian, and Romansch.
Fresh from Zürich, the moment we were (not so) awaiting patiently had arrived; being fully immersed in French. Of course if you spark up a conversation in English most people around you will also chime in with near-perfect English, but after months of French class I was more than ready to be surrounded by all of the vocabulary that I had been brushing up on.

Where I put my french to good use; "je voudrais que le boeuf avec deux sauces, s'il vous plaît".

Le Monopole is an unassuming, boldly painted stall that comes alive with lunchtime.
Don't let the line deter you; daily fresh bread, homemade sauces, and you can practically taste the love that goes into the making of your sandwich.
Beautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-EuropeHans claims this is the best sandwich spot, and after a few bites of crisp lettuce and tomato, the perfectly seasoned beef, tangy sauces spilling down your arm, all tucked into a toasted sourdough roll, it's hard to disagree.
Eager to see the city, and walk off that panini, we set off for the oldest set of stairs in Lausanne.

Perched at the top with the city just below us, reminiscing about the last time we were sat in front of this view, and planning what this trip would have in store for us.
Beautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-EuropeAfter promising to cross off more items on our must-see lists, spend more time falling in love with Lausanne, and having given our feet a much needed break, we set off again to wander aimlessly.Beautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-EuropeThough unpredictable, spring has proven to be one of my favorite seasons to visit during. The city is enveloped in the aroma of blooms, a city full of people eager to enjoy this long awaited weather, and the occasional rainstorm that encourages you to explore the cafe scene and rest a bit.Beautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-EuropeBeautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-EuropeGetting lost in Lausanne isn't always a bad thing. We pointed as we strolled at restaurants new and old, racking our brains for which cobblestone street would lead us where.Beautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-Europe

Complete with a new age vibe, famously delicious handmade pizza, and the best part, the ginger beer.

For the three years that we have waited to revisit Lausanne, this beer has always been brought up as one of the things that I have missed most.
Though tipping isn't required we always left some cash at the table. If you're just grabbing a beer or a coffee, a good rule of thumb is one Franc per beverage.
Beautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-EuropeWith jet lag creeping up, we moseyed home for an espresso followed by, what I like to call, the power nap. Huh, caffeine before a nap? Trust me when I tell you that a cup of joe followed by a thirty minute nap leaves you feeling sharp, and none of that jittery and foggy caffeine brain.
Beautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-EuropeFeeling refreshed and ready to hit the town, we hopped on the bus (public transpiration is a dream here and I highly suggest a weekly pass if when you visit) and zipped off to a new bar.Beautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-EuropeBeautyosuaurs Lex-Alex Good-Lifestyle Blog-Travel Blog-Lausanne-Switzerland-AlexGoodTravels-Europe
La Galicienne is a seasonal spot that boasts frosty pints of craft brews, a casual ambiance, and seating to stretch out in the sun and catch up with old friends.

Cheers to a a great first day in Lausanne, and many more to come!
